Treasures of the University Library Tour
We recently ventured over to the University Library to get the chance to glimpse some treasures hidden in its depths: books belonging to our first Master Laurence Chaderton, one of the earliest handwritten copies of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, some early science and medical books and some historic images of our college (don't worry not much has changed since 1815). We also heard about the centuries-old dispute between Emmanuel and the library over who should inherit some books left by a benefactor in his Will.
Built up over centuries, the collections of the University Library are some of the most rare and valuable in the world. In our bespoke led by Liam Sims, a rare books specialist, we had the opportunity to learn more about these treasures. We also received a tour of the building and learnt about the general history of the library.
The library has changing exhibitions in the building and online, and runs other events through the year. You can see more at: https://www.lib.cam.ac.uk
