what is EMMA

EXPERIENCE?

our MISSION

The Emma Experience programme seeks to endow every member of our collegiate community with the skills and opportunities they need to flourish in life.

Complementing the academic purpose of the College, it aims to support the needs and potential of the whole person.

Its success will be measured by sending Emma members out into the world, not only as academic achievers, but also able to use what they have learned here for the benefit of society.

Emmanuel College has for centuries sought to lay the foundations of intellectual and personal flourishing. The motto of the Dominican friars who first established a place of learning on our grounds was contemplare et contemplate aliis tradere : ‘to study and to hand on the fruits of study’. The fruits of study were also in the mind of our founder, Walter Mildmay, who in conversation with Queen Elizabeth I, said of the college…

‘i have set an acorn which when it becomes an oak, god alone knows what will be the fruit thereof’

Walter Mildmay

Following in their footsteps, we want to send Emma members out into the world, not only as academic achievers, but also able to use what they have learned here for the benefit of society. While our impressive academic record will always remain a focus for us, the space, facilities and collegiate community allow us to embrace and support the needs and potential of everyone.

Emma Experience  takes the form of a programme of opportunities to equip every member of our community with the skills they will need to flourish, for life. This has been generously supported by the wider Emmanuel family. Each opportunity will be distinctive, taking advantage of our diverse, collegiate community and special surroundings. We hope that this will enable everyone to have their ‘acorn moment’ which in time will grow and blossom.
