Emma Experience Communications Internships x2

Deadline: Sunday 18 October 2026, 6pm

Are you a keen photographer, storyteller or content creator? A budding journalist or podcaster? Want to build your communications skills while helping other students discover opportunities and share their experiences?

Thanks to a generous philanthropic gift, the Emma Experience office is able to recruit two paid student Communications Interns for the academic year 2026-27 to help grow the reach and impact of Emma Experience and the Mildmay Award scheme.

This is a chance to gain real-world experience in communications, create content that makes a difference, and help shape how students hear about and engage with the programme.

What will you do?

As a Communications Intern, you’ll help us:

  • Develop and deliver communications aimed at students

  • Create written or visual content, such as articles, photography and short-form media

  • Explore creative formats such as social media and podcasting

  • Capture student stories, case studies and examples of impact

  • Promote the Mildmay Awards and other Emma Experience programme opportunities

  • Support events and programme promotion

  • Collect and organise programme data, feedback and outcomes

  • Develop new ideas for engaging students and sharing their experiences

You’ll play an important role in making sure student experiences are captured, celebrated and shared, while helping us understand and demonstrate the impact of the programme has helping students like you make the most of your time in Cambridge.

What will you get from it?

This internship is designed to support your development as well as the programme.

You’ll receive:

  • Structured mentorship; we will find someone in your area of comms interest who can offer mentoring.

  • An hourly rate of £13.45 + holiday pay. You would be expected to work an average of 4 hours each week, for a maximum of 32 hours each term. We will be flexible around your academic and personal commitments.

  • £500–£1,000 training fund to support your professional development with a professional course, tool, or training experience.

  • Opportunities to build practical experience and a portfolio of communications work.

  • Support to identify training linked to your interests, whether that’s social media, photography, podcasting or another area of communications.

How to apply

You don’t need to be a communications expert. We’re looking for students who are curious, creative and keen to learn.

To apply, you’ll need to submit:

  1. An application form

  2. A short training proposal outlining a skill or area you’d like to develop (not limited to photography, social media, podcasting, etc.).

  3. Portfolio or a 1-2 examples of what you could create.

  4. Tutor endorsement (speak to your tutor before applying).

Two positions available. Open to Emmanuel College students only.

If you have any questions get in touch with Dr Daniel McKay, Emma Experience Director (djtm2@emma.cam.ac.uk).
